The Art of Living With Hemophilia
A Story of Personal Triumph Through Art By Kelly Burgess
Gilmer has been asked many times if he's planning to become a professional artist. As much as he loves art, he finds that it can be rather isolating. Right now he's thrilled that what he once viewed as an obstacle, his hemophilia, has led him to what he sees as the perfect job: using his art to work with people and to maybe even help them.
Right now he's enjoying the travel and the challenge of his new job as a representative for both Novo Nordisk and the Art Therapy Association of America. The program, which was just launched in March, has already proven to be so successful that it has been approved for another year.
Gilmer says he's grateful to have found art as an outlet not only because of its therapeutic value, but because it allowed him to give something back to those who had given so much o him. He's now giving others the same chance to find a future.
