Today Jonnie played a baseball game. His team lost 1-6. He came home and went on and on about what a good game it was. You may be wondering if my kid is going crazy; maybe you are wondering if he can count.
My son really enjoyed today's game first and foremost because he actually got a single today. This is the first time this season he got on base. Not only did he get a single, but he didn't even get one strike while up for that at bat. He is so excited and he credits it to his coach and the talk he gave him before he went up to bat.
In reality, not only have I taken him out to the fields to practice with him and his sister, but so has his dad and his grandfather (who used to play in the minors.) I've also taken him to the batting cages and would take him more often if he could keep his room clean.
Another reason he thought it was a great game was because he felt they had a good umpire. I guess the coaches complained about some of the umpires but everyone was pleased with the one they had today. It makes the boys feel better about a game if they think they had a fair chance. (This is why I think coaches and parents should keep their complaining about the umpires to themselves.)
Lastly, he thought it was a good game because the other team kept them for scoring any runs until the bottom of the sixth. (Little league only goes 6 innings.) Evidently, my son was impressed with the ability of the other team to keep his team from scoring and was honored just to have played in a game where there was such good defense.
To have a son that can come home from a loosing game all pumped up and excited makes me very proud. He is playing this sport for the right reason. He is showing good sportsmanship. He's my all-star today.
Best Wishes,
Khy, loving mommy to 2 ASD kids, Josh (autism) and Jonnie (PDD-NOS/ADHD), and their 3 siblings
PS (Don't forget to check out the pictures of the boys on my TTM board. Also, earlier this week I posted an update on Josh dated 5/2/02 in the scroll down menu.)
