Kim's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 21, 2003

Well, the unthinkable has happened. I stepped on the scale at my doctor's office this morning and got the shock of my life. I giddily told Shelly, "I bet I gained five pounds." Shelly moved the little bar and smiled, "Nope, nine." "Say what?! Come again. Did you say NINE?" Shelly took my blood pressure which I'm sure was creeping up slowly as I shooky my head. She listened for the heartbeat (which was in the 140's) as Lambchop ran from her and the doppler. Then, she left me to await Dr. D and his reprimand.

Dr. D came in and asked how I was. I said I must be fine if I had gained NINE pounds in less than five weeks. He said, "Well, we'll get to that in a minute." That had a rather ominous tone. I told him I had weaned myself off the Effexor and we talked about whether it had been helping or not. After discussing the fact that I had more anxiety than depression lately, he suggested Benadryl (which will help the hay fever I know is looming) and he wrote me a prescription for Ambien to use if I have trouble sleeping or relaxing before bed.

Then he got to the weight thing. "I think you should see a nutritionist. Maybe that will help get you on the right track for the rest of the pregnancy. It may as simple as strictly watching your carbs." I sighed and nodded obediently. He said my urine was clear and everything else looked fine. I told him I was getting the AFP this time and he made some notes. Then he walked me to the checkout desk and instructed the clerk to make my nutritionist appointment.

As I was waiting to get my appointment, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Jennifer standing behind me. "What are you doing here?" She smiled coyly. "Is it annual time?" She just smiled again and said, "No." I finally got the hint and I blurted, "Are you pregnant?!" She just nodded. She's due in September too. This should be fun. I wonder if she'll push her own kids as much as she pushes Jarod? Payback is a mother. Well, I'm at work and it's quitting time. I apologize in advance for any typos!
