Shelly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 7, 2003

4-7-04

Sean had his CT scan of his heart this morning. It wasn't good news like the ECHO. We are waiting to see a Cardiologist and Cardiothoracic surgeons. Other tests need to be done to determine what other things are wrong with his heart.

Basically, the Aorta developed and as it did, it split to go around the esophagus and then came back together. It is hard to explain, but he also has other vessels involved and has extra of them. How many, not sure but an ANGIOGRAM is going to be done to determine just how extensive the problem is. All this affects the blood flow back into the heart from the lungs. It was bad when they found this problem in February, but has gotten worse since then. Sean has become a high priority at Childrens, so we shall see where we go from here in the next few days.

I am bummed and numb. Sean's 5th birthday is next Thursday on the 15th. It was suppose to be a milestone in his life. He made it to 5 without dying! He was suppose to beat the odds. Now those odds have been taken from us and we get to deal with new numbers. This is a bad nightmare I want to wake up from. My heart aches for my little son who has suffered so much in his short life. Cancer is the only we will have not gone through with him. He is a very high risk for esophageal cancer though. I wouldn't be surprised if we were told he had it!
Please keep Sean in your prayers and thoughts. He has beaten odds before, i am sure he can again.

Have a wonderful week and remember to take time to spend with your children and go smell the floweres and skip through some puddles!
