Up Close and Personal

I decided what the heck… might as well spill the beans.
The past month has been full of ups and downs. Without going into a huge detailed story I will just say I had my first glimpse of depression and it was scary place to be. When Jt was first diagnosed with add/hd his Dr. sat me down and told me that the rate of mothers with children who suffer from Add/hd are at high risk for depression and the number of mothers it his is high. You like to think you are above that… or at least I did… I was wrong. I am struggling each and every day and thank our wonderful Lord that I have such a great husband who is helping me through this.

Jt got his report card from school a couple weeks ago. He did a good job and none of his grades went down. He still seems to really be struggling with writing! To make matters worse, he is now learning cursive writing. His teacher called me this week to let me know he is really struggling with this. She asked us to practice with him at home and she would continue to give him extra work in class. Jt likes to blames his messy writing on being left handed and we are trying to teach him not to use that as an excuse. I have no idea where he got that from. We also did some research on the internet and found a writing program that may help a little. We ordered a workbook from them. http://www.hwtears.com/cursive.htm I hope it works and helps him enjoy writing a little more. He seems to work much better with Joe then with me. *sigh*

When Jt is busy, his behavior is much better. As I mentioned in my intro, we try to keep Jt in sports activities at all times because that is what he LOVES to do. The last couple months have been tough for two reasons. 1.) We are crammed into this little house with no space to call our own if we need to be along and 2) Jt has not been in any sporting activities, the weather has forced him to be inside after school and he has pent up energy. Well, Joe signed him up for floor hockey at the Park district. It will be every Wen night, starting on the 23rd! Woohooo. Then, Joe signed him up for a pitching camp that will be every Monday night starting in March. Once the pitching camp is up, Joe plans to get Jt private pitching lessons. I am still up in the air about this one though. Jt is really exited about the pitching camp and I am so happy to see it. We can use this camp and the hockey as motivation for him to get homework done and stay on top of his behaviors.

I was really terrible at recording Jt’s behaviors over the last two weeks, I do know that we got a call from Jt’s teacher, telling us he was not doing so hot. ( only a week after we got the call telling us he was doing so great!) On the same day I got a call from the mom of a little boy I watched telling me that *J* had told Jt’s pounced on his stomach when I was not looking.  Jt was really very argumentative with everyone for about a week. After we went on our min vacation (see my Moms Today entry) things seem to be a bit better. What is really strange is that all the terrible stuff was happening as I was following a strict diet change that is supposed to help improve ad/hd symptoms. I have not been following the diet as much this past week and he seems to be doing a little better?

There is more I would like to write…. But work is calling me.
