Coming out of the Crisis Haze

Introduction

Just a very brief note to let you know that I will be writing here again, very soon now.  I am finally coming out of the crisis haze, caused by my dad's heart attack back at the end of Aug.

My father did live through his heart attack, but none of our lives will be the same.  He has regained most of his memory and cognitive ability, though he has no memory of the event itself nor the immediate recovery period.  As well, he has holes in his recent memories, of the last three years, and he doesn't seem to do well at forming new memories.  He cannot follow a one-hour TV drama's plot nor a logical argument.

Most hurtful of all, he not only has forgotten all the sacrifices his children made while he was in the hospital and immediately afterwards, nor the ones we were willing to make if he remained incompetent, but he is subject to very simple "brain-washing," which his girlfriend has taken full advantage of.  Now, he is of the opinion that his children were terrible to her and he must defend her honor and restore it by making unreasonable demands on us involving her.  He has also moved in with her.

But I really, really don't want to concentrate on all the terrible, melo-drama that was my life for months and months.  These people can keep their games.  I've flown the white flag; I couldn't care less.  I want my life back!  I intend to claim my right to live free of their neurotic behavior.

So, shortly, I hope to have time to update these diaries like I have in the past.  The fact is, I love having this record of my kids lives so much, that despite the severe gap, I find it worth my time to attempt to pick up the story again.

Best wishes,

Khy
